Cruze parts maker Magna

announces plant shutdown

A company that produces seats for the Chevrolet Cruze has announced it is shutting down in the wake of General Motors' decision to idle the Ohio plant that builds the cars.

Lordstown Seating Systems is a subsidiary of automotive supply company Magna. A notice filed with the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services said the company with lay off almost all its workers at its northeastern Ohio facility.

The Warren Tribune Chronicle reports about 120 employees will be affected, with layoffs expected to happen as soon as Feb. 25.

The announcement was the second this month involving a supplier to the Lordstown GM plant. The United Steel Workers said last week that Source Providers, Inc., a subsidiary of Comprehensive Logistics Co., will also close.

Amazon planning expansion

of its Whole Foods franchise

E-commerce giant Amazon.com is aiming to expand its Whole Foods grocery stores in the United States.

The e-commerce giant wants to add locations to suburbs and other areas where the organic grocer is adding more customers since it was bought by Amazon last year, according to the Wall Street Journal, which cited a person familiar with the plans. The move would allow more customers to tap into Amazon's Prime Now two-hour delivery service.

Amazon has been pushing to expand in the $840 billion grocery business since buying Whole Foods for $13.7 billion in 2017. Amazon has used discounts to lure Amazon Prime members to physical Whole Foods stores. Amazon's Prime Now service offers delivery from Whole Foods in as little as an hour in more than 60 cities.

TOBACCO

NYC ban on drugstore sales

of cigarettes to take effect

New York City pharmacies won't be allowed to sell cigarettes or other tobacco products starting Tuesday.

The Wall Street Journal reports the ban also includes businesses that contain pharmacies, such as supermarkets and big-box stores.

The city's health department says the change will affect about 500 pharmacies currently selling tobacco products.

The new rules follow a ban on electronic cigarette sales at pharmacies that took effect in late August.
