Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine surprised the crew at a local McDonald's Thursday morning en route to an Akron Roundtable speaking engagement.

The governor and several staff members visited the restaurant at 578 E. Market St. near Summa Akron City Hospital around 11 a.m., said Amanda Cano, the location's area supervisor.

DeWine stopped in for coffee and to spend a few moments catching up on email, she told the Beacon Journal. Regina Thompson, the store's general manager, was the first to recognize the state's newly installed top executive — who pleasantly agreed to be photographed with the restaurant's staff and offered employees praise and encouragement.
