COVENTRY TWP. — The Summit County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in finding the driver of a car accused of running another vehicle off Interstate 77 last week.

The car — described by witnesses as a red 2000 to 2005 Honda Civic — was traveling southbound on the highway and ran a 2002 Volkswagon Jetta off the road at 12:15 p.m. Jan. 15 just south of U.S. Route 224, authorities said. The car, possibly a four-door vehicle, didn't stop.

The Jetta traveled into the median, went airborne and rolled a number of times before coming to rest in the northbound lanes of the highway. A 20-year-old woman from Green and her 6-month-old son who was secured in a car seat were treated at the scene by Coventry Township firefighters and taken to Summa Akron City Hospital and Akron Children's Hospital for further evaluation.

The sheriff's office had received several 911 calls about the crash.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the deputy Robert DiSabato at 330-643-2181.
