TALLMADGE — The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office is trying to determine how a man found Tuesday morning outside covered in snow died.
The man has been identified as David Clark, 60, of Tallmadge, said Gary Guenther, investigator for the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office.
Clark was discovered fully clothed and under several inches of snow behind Pizza Hut, 535 South Ave., authorities said. The man lived in a nearby apartment and was found near a Dumpster with a 15-pack of beer.
Authorities said he had a history of alcohol abuse.
City Police Chief Ron Williams said there was no sign of foul play and there were no tracks leading to or away from the body. The man, who apparently had drank up to 11 of the beers, was found by an employee who noticed the outline of a body in the snow, he said.
"The guy is sitting there drinking for some reason," Williams said.
Guenther said Wednesday afternoon a cause of death has not yet been determined, as the medical examiner's office is still awaiting toxicology results.
It's unclear how long the man had been there. A winter storm that dumped more than 12 inches of snow on the Akron region Saturday and Sunday morning, leading authorities to believe he had been there for several days.
