STREETSBORO — A new Holiday Inn Express has been approved for the Shady Lake development on state Route 14.

According to plans, the 17,362-square-foot hotel will front on Shady Lake Drive and would be behind a Panda Express and an Arby’s restaurant, according to Planning Director John Ceiszkowski Jr.

In September, Geis Construction was turned down for a four-story structure because it was 11 feet taller than city codes permit. The new proposal meets code restrictions.

Plans are subject to conditions by the Streetsboro Zoning and Planning Commission, including design and traffic patterns that don’t interfere with the surrounding area.

Matt Weber of Weber Engineering Services said in September that the potential owner wants to replace the “outdated” Holiday Inn Express at 9459 Route 14.

A variance for a Holiday Inn Express for the Streetsboro Commons development was denied in March 2017.
