Barberton City School District Thursday said students did what they were taught: When they found out a fellow classmate had two unloaded guns, they alerted school officials.

Why the boy brought the weapons to Barberton Middle School was unclear.

No students were threatened, the district said on its Facebook page.

"While we cannot reveal specifics of a police investigation, we can say that the student did not display any harmful intent toward himself or others," the district said. "We are proud of our teachers and our community — this situation was handled quickly and appropriately."

School officials urged adults to remind students that if they see anything potentially harmful they should say something.
