CUYAHOGA FALLS — A Cleveland-area southern cuisine restaurant has opened a new location in the Chapel Hill area.

Sides to go! BBQ’s Cuyahoga Falls location, 1220 Buchholzer Blvd., Unit B, is hosting a grand opening at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, with discounts, giveaways and games.

The casual eatery, located in the plaza at the northeast corner of Buchholzer Boulevard and Howe Avenue, joins other locations in Macedonia, Fairview Park, at the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport and a restaurant under construction in Bedford Heights.

"We are a southern-style eatery, fast-food casual,” store owner Mel Leach said. “We're not a soul food restaurant. We would consider ourselves southern cuisine.”

Leach said the restaurant, supplied with food from parent company Simply Southern Sides, wanted to expand outside the Cleveland market, where similar restaurants can be found “on almost every corner.”

“We felt like it was a good location,” Leach said. “Cuyahoga Falls met our demographic. You want to go in areas that don't have an influx of what you serve.”

The menu features a variety of southern cuisine, including sweet potato casserole, macaroni and cheese, fried green tomatoes, pulled pork and chicken, beef brisket and vegan pulled barbecue. Cajun dishes include crawfish etouffee, jambalaya and gumbo, and desserts include cobblers and cakes.

Prices start with a "five-dollar menu" and move up to a three-meat meal for just over $12. The menu also includes kids’ meals and desserts.

The store had a soft opening in December but waited until after the holidays to host its grand opening. Since it opened, Leach said “it's been accepted pretty well.” Minimal indoor seating is available. The restaurant also caters.

The store has four employees but is looking to hire more, especially people in the Akron and Cuyahoga Falls area like store manager Jon Jeffries, who started working in the Macedonia store.

"John came up and started off on the lowest level,” Leach said. “He worked his way up.”

Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday. The store is closed Mondays. For more information, visit sidestogobbq.com or call 330-208-0415.

“Whenever you're looking for a meal and you don't feel like cooking, and you want to eat something like Mama cooked it, then that's us," Leach said.
