COVENTRY TWP. — A 94-year-old man crossing the street was struck and killed by a driver Tuesday afternoon on Lockwood Road.

The Summit County Sheriff's Office — which hasn't publicly identified the man — said the incident happened about 3:20 p.m.

Deputies and the Summit Metro Crash Response team responded and discovered a 2003 Ford Focus was traveling west on Lockwood Road when it struck the man, who lives in Coventry Township. The injured man was taken to Cleveland Clinic Akron General, where he died, the sheriff's office said.

The road remained closed for about three hours as part of the investigation.

Neither speed nor alcohol appeared to be involved, the sheriff's office said, but charges are pending against the car's driver pending the outcome of the investigation.
