Another fine mess
To mark the opening of the new film "Stan & Ollie," this week's Movies@Main will feature a collection of Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy shorts. The free showing will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Akron-Summit County Main Library in downtown Akron. There will also be a discussion about the comedy team.
There will be a Groundhog Fun Day at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History starting at 10 a.m. Saturday. There will be live animal demonstrations and crafts celebrating springtime's legendary rodent. There also will be special appearances by Thistle the Whistlepig at 12:30 and 2:30 pm in Murch Auditorium. The museum is at 1 Wade Oval Drive in University Circle in Cleveland. For more information, call 216-231-4600 or visit www.cmnh.org.
Repeat over and over
There will be a Groundhog Day 5k on Saturday at Akron's Lock 3. The fun begins at 8 a.m. and repeats over and over just like the movie. The 5K is in the spirit of the movie "Groundhog Day," so each runner will complete a 5K in segments of 800 meters. Like the movie, once the last runner in your group completes the segment, there will be a one minute rest period before starting the next run. There will be a showing of the movie after the race along with drink specials. For more, visit runsignup.com/groundhogday5k.
Read a book
The 12th Annual Family Reading Festival will be Saturday at the Akron-Summit County Main Library in downtown Akron. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be activities, free books and entertainment. Jim Gill will perform at 10:45 a.m. and the Miller South Show Choir at noon.
There will be a free Superb Owl Sunday (get it?) program at 1 p.m. at the F.A. Seiberling Nature Realm. Participants will learn more about the predatory birds. The park is at 1828 Smith Road in Akron.
