Two Cleveland area names are among the 2019 James Beard Awards Restaurant and Chef Semifinalists.

Larder Delicatessen and Bakery at 1455 W. 29th St in Cleveland’s Hingetown neighborhood on the city’s near west side, is a semifinalist in the Best New Restaurant category.

Jill Vedaa, chef and owner of Salt at 7625 Detroit Ave. in Lakewood, is a semifinalist in the Best Chefs: Great Lakes Region category for the second consecutive year.

Jose Salazar of Mita’s in Cincinnati also is a semifinalist in this category.

The James Beard Foundation will name finalists March 27. The James Beard Awards Gala will be May 6 in Chicago.
