A 44-year-old Akron woman was shot in the leg when she interrupted an attack on her adult son in their driveway, police said.

Police said the incident happened about 7:45 p.m. Thursday in the 900 block of Florida Avenue in Kenmore.

Two men, one with a gun, approached a 22-year-old man as he got out of a car in a driveway. The men ordered the 22-year-old to the ground, then kicked and punched him as they tried to rob him.

As this was happening, the man's mother came out of her home. The robbers fled to a minivan without taking anything. As they ran, one of the men turned back and fired two shots, striking the woman in the lower leg, police said.

The woman was taken to a hospital and was expected to recover.

Police said both robbers are in their 20s, 5-foot-10 to 6 feet tall and weigh 150 to 160 pounds.

One of the men is black. He wore a light gray hoodie, dark pants and had a mask covering his face. He carried a silver-and-black handgun. The other is white. He wore a black hoodie and jeans.
