JACKSON TWP.: Police said they believe an Akron man was drunk and had hash in his car when he flipped it shortly after midnight Monday near Belden Village Mall.

Kenneth M. Dunham, 31, of Akron, was arrested at 12:10 a.m. Monday in the 4900 block of Higbee Avenue Northwest, near the scene of the crash, Stark County Jail records show. Details of the wreck were not available, and the jail records did not say whether any other passengers were arrested.

Witnesses told police that it appeared the driver had lost control of the car, causing it to flip over. Witnesses reported occupants fled.

Police went in the direction the occupants reportedly had gone and found Dunham, who matched the description of the driver, according to the jail records.

Police also found an undisclosed number of liquid cartridges containing hash oil in the car, which they believe Dunham had been driving while “voluntarily intoxicated,” the jail records show.

He was jailed on charges of hashish possession, OVI, driving under suspension due to forfeiture for child support, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to maintain reasonable control of a motor vehicle.

Summit County court records show he was sentenced to two years of community control in 2016 after he was convicted of illegal cultivation of marijuana and marijuana trafficking.

Dunham remained behind bars Tuesday, held in lieu of $76,000 bond pending a Massillon Municipal Court hearing.
