An Akron woman was struck in the head by a stray bullet near West Crosier and Princeton streets.

The 79-year-old woman was standing in a driveway Monday afternoon when she was hit, according to Akron police. She was treated at Cleveland Clinic Akron General and released. The woman’s car also was struck by stray bullets.

Akron police said that people in two cars were shooting at each other when one of the bullets struck the woman.

Police were responding to a call of shots being fired from the vehicles shortly before 3 p.m. Monday when they learned that the woman had been shot in the head.

Witnesses told police that the occupants of two vehicles were shooting at each other and then raced away from the area. One of the vehicles was described as a gold, four-door Chevrolet.

The area is in Akron’s Summit Lake residential neighborhood south of Interstate 76.

This was among the latest shooting incidents in Akron. Police said that on Friday night several people reported their homes or cars were hit by bullets in the 600 block of Mallison Avenue in the city. There were no injuries in those incidents.
