The Brewers Association on Tuesday released its annual list of the Top 50 craft brewers in the nation, with Great Lakes Brewing Co. in Cleveland and Rhinegeist Brewery in Cincinnati once again finding a place among the sales volume leaders.
Great Lakes was ranked 20th, the same as the previous year. Rhinegeist moved up five spots to 28th. Boston Beer Co., which operates the Samuel Adams brewery in Cincinnati, is No. 2.
Artisanal Brewing Ventures, which includes Southern Tier and its Cleveland brewery, was ranked 11th.
The top five — which is unchanged from the previous year — were: D.G. Yuengling & Son, Boston Beer, Sierra Nevada, New Belgium and Duvel Moortgat.
“Although the market has grown more competitive, particularly for regional craft breweries with the widest distribution, these 50 small and independent brewing companies continue to lead the craft brewing market in sales through strong brands, quality, and innovation,” Brewers Association chief economist Bart Watson said in a prepared statement.
The Boulder, Colo.-based group also released its list of the Top 50 overall breweries in the country. The top five were: Anheuser-Busch, MillerCoors, Constellation, Heineken and Pabst. Anheuser-Busch and MillerCoors operate breweries in Ohio in Columbus and Trenton, respectively.
Great Lakes was ranked 30th, while Rhinegeist was 38th on the overall list.
