GRANVILLE — Denison University canceled classes Wednesday following the death by suicide of a female student.

Granville police were dispatched to campus Tuesday night for a student who reportedly needed medical attention.

Tianyue Li, a member of the Class of 2019 and a communication major from China, died in an apparent suicide, police said.

"This was a tragic death," said university spokeswoman Ginny Sharkey.

Authorities and the university did not provide Li's age or other specifics about how she died.

Denison University President Adam Weinberg said in an email to the faculty Tuesday night that classes would be canceled Wednesday and that Swasey Chapel would open for students and the community to gather. The chapel will remain open Thursday, and professional staff members and clergy members are available.

This was the second student suicide at Denison this academic year.
