A 45-year-old Lodi man was struck and killed by a car Friday night as he walked onto a road in his southwest Medina County town, the State Highway Patrol said.

The incident happened just after 8 p.m. on state Route 421, which is also called Bank Street.

According to the Highway Patrol, Cole Filhart walked onto the road and was struck by a Honda Civic driven by a 43-year-old West Salem woman.

Filhart left the scene of the crash and was later taken to a hospital from a private home, the state patrol said.

It was not clear why Filhart left the scene, nor how much time passed before he sought medical help.

The Beacon Journal/Ohio.com is not identifying the driver of the car that struck Filhart because the Highway Patrol did not say she faces any charges.

The crash remains under investigation.
