Two men were shot to death Sunday night in Akron in separate incidents, with a suspect identified in one of the shootings, the Summit County Medical Examiner and Akron police report.

The shootings do not appear to be related, police said.

In the first incident, a 22-year-old man was shot multiple times in the chest after getting into a fight before 10 p.m. outside 66 E. Mapledale Ave. in Akron’s Firestone Park neighborhood. East Mapledale runs between South Main Street and Bellows Street.

The man was taken to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center and pronounced dead at 10:28 p.m.

Akron police said they have a warrant to arrest Jovonta Moore, 23, with a last known address on East Archwood Avenue. Moore is described as 5-feet-9-inches tall and 230 pounds and should be considered armed and dangerous.

In the other incident, a 25-year-old man was shot in the head shortly after 10 p.m. while he was sitting in the driver’s seat of a 2018 black Infiniti in the 1000 block of Yale Street. Yale Street runs from West Crosier Street to West Long Street south of Interstate 77-76, in Akron’s Summit Lake neighborhood. The man was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:31 p.m.

Police said the man drove to Yale Street to sell marijuana to the suspected shooter. The suspect, who was seen in a gray 2017 Dodge Charger, took the marijuana and shot the man in the car, Akron police said.

The medical examiner’s officer said it will release names once the two deceased men are positively identified and next of kin notified.
