CANTON — A 30-year-old Canton man was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash Monday night that damaged the sign outside a downtown drugstore.

Police were called at 10:26 p.m. to the crash in in the 1300 block of Cleveland Avenue NW after the man, who drove a gray 2017 Toyota Corolla, failed to negotiate a curve in the split in the road as he headed south on Cleveland, according to a news release from the Canton Police Department.

The car went up into the yard of Walgreen's Pharmacy and struck the sign, trapping the driver inside.

Canton firefighters worked to free him. He was taken with serious injuries to Mercy Medical Center.

His condition was not available Tuesday morning as the Canton Metro Crash Team continued to investigate. The news release noted that alcohol is "not considered a factor at this time."

Police said anyone with information about the wreck to call the Canton Police Traffic Bureau. Sgt. Steve Swank can be reached at 330-438-4486.
