AKRON: The Catherine Richards Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will dedicate a bronze marker at the grave of Catherine Richards Buchtel at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Glendale Cemetery in Akron.
Her father was John Richards, a Revolutionary War veteran who settled in Summit County in 1815 on land that is now located in the city of Green.
She and her husband, John Buchtel, had three daughters and two sons, one of whom, John R. Buchtel, became the benefactor and namesake in 1872 of Buchtel College, forerunner of the University of Akron.
Catherine Richards Buchtel died in July 1881 and is buried at Glendale in Section 22, Lot 4, near her son John.
