A man found shot to death Sunday night on Yale Street in Akron while in a car during an apparent drug deal has been identified.

The identity of another man shot to death in a separate, apparently unrelated incident Sunday night in Akron may be known today.

The Summit County Medical Examiner’s office said Tuesday the man shot dead on Yale Street was Dierre Smith, 25, an Akron resident.

Police said Smith was shot in the head shortly after 10 p.m. as he sat in the driver’s seat of a 2018 black Infiniti in the 1000 block of Yale Street in Akron’s Summit Lake neighborhood. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:31 p.m.

Police said Smith drove to Yale Street to sell marijuana to the suspected shooter, who took marijuana from Smith, shot him and then left in a gray 2017 Dodge Charger.

The medical examiner’s office said it may be able to publicly identify today the 22-year-old man who was shot multiple times in the chest during a fight about 10 p.m. outside 66 East Mapledale Ave. in Akron’s Firestone Park neighborhood.

The man was pronounced dead at 10:28 p.m after being take to Cleveland Clinic Akron General.

Akron police on Monday said they have a warrant to arrest Jovonta Moore, 23, with a last known address on East Archwood Avenue, in connection with the shooting. Moore is described as five feet nine inches tall and 230 pounds and should be considered armed and dangerous, police said.

The two shootings are apparently unrelated, Akron police have said.
