A Hartville woman convicted of not paying child support was sentenced Tuesday to 90 days in jail.
Summit County Common Pleas Judge Jill Flagg Lanzinger also ordered Valerie Ziemba to spend 180 days in an Oriana House work release program and placed her on probation for two years.
Ziemba was convicted by a jury in February, the first time in more than 10 years that a criminal non-support case had gone to trial in Summit County.
Ziemba was ordered to pay child support for her four children in April 2007.
Despite being a registered nurse, having her own catering business, and obtaining a master’s degree, prosecutors say Ziemba failed to make any effort to financially support her children. Ziemba owes more than $95,000 in support.
Lanzinger ordered Ziemba Tuesday to pay $752.77 a month in support until her debt is paid.
