Akron’s Bounce Innovation Hub will commemorate the opening of its newly renovated first-floor Generator space with a free, public daylong event May 22.

Bounce is at 526 S. Main St., a nine-story standalone building next to the Canal Place complex, the repurposed B.F. Goodrich campus in Akron. (Bounce, which is not part of Canal Place, is the former Akron Global Business Accelerator.)

Activities start at 8 a.m. and will end with the grand opening and open-house main event from 4 to 8 p.m. To register, go to https://bouncehub.org/grand-opening/.

The 27,000-square-foot Generator space now nearing completion will house co-working, rentable office and event space; a makerspace; esports lab and the Remarkable Café and Coffee Shop run by Barberton’s Remarkable Diner.

The May 22 activities will showcase the new space, programs and amenities as well as current startups in residence, the business startup organization said.

“This grand opening and open house is our chance to show not just Akron, but all of northeast Ohio and beyond, what Bounce has to offer our community,” Doug Weintraub, Bounce chief executive officer, said in a news release. “Until now, Bounce was restricted by our funding to serve a very specific type of technology-based company through our incubator and accelerator programs. The first floor allows us to throw open our doors to entrepreneurs and community members in all industries from all walks of life.”

The Generator space is available for public use by entrepreneurs, small businesses, freelancers, remote workers, corporate teams, gamers, artists and makers. The space has a modern industrial motif to capture the spirit of Akron’s past and present. It is designed and accented with locally made materials, artwork, furniture and furnishings.
