Ohio ranks 11th in Groupon Coupons' new report "Best State for Beer Lovers."

To determine the rankings, the online coupon provider studied the average score of the five best-tasting beers made in each state according to BeerAdvocate.com; the average cost of a 12-ounce Miller Lite at bars and a 24-pack of Miller Lite or Bud Light at the store; and the number of beer-related Groupons sold per 1,000 people.

"And while America is awash in beer, that doesn't mean every state is a veritable Pilsner Paradise," the report says. "Thanks to the legacy of Prohibition, regional restrictions, and befuddling distribution maps, some states are downright bummers for beer enthusiasts."

California topped the list. The rest of the top five, in order, were: Colorado, Michigan, Illinois and Massachusetts. The bottom five were: New Mexico, Alaska, Kansas, Hawaii and North Dakota.

Ohio placed 20th for quality and 26th for enthusiasm, which was judged by Groupons sold. It was sixth for cheap beer.

The report does provide a special shout-out to Great Lakes states. There were five in the top 11 — Michigan (3), Illinois (4), Pennsylvania (7), Minnesota (8) and Ohio (11).
