What subject(s) do you teach (grade level)?: Sixth-grade math

What is the best part of your job?: I love the relationships that I build with my students. In my class we work really hard, but there is always an opportunity for laughter. It’s what makes my job awesome — they keep me on my toes!

What is the most challenging part of your job?: Trying to meet the individual needs of all the students in my class is the most challenging part of my job. Each student comes with a different story and different needs. Trying to solve that puzzle is always hard — but when you do, it’s one of the most rewarding parts as well.

Is teaching kids the same today as when you first started? This is my tenth year, and I will say that kids are always just kids. I have seen some changes, but at their core, they are still 11- and 12-year-olds!

Your students would be surprised to know that I ... have never ever played a video game...not even once.

What’s your hidden talent? Running really long distances

If you weren’t a teacher, you’d be doing what? Honestly, teaching has been the only thing I have wanted to do since I have been 5! But if I had to choose, I would either be a nurse or a social worker.

After a long day at work, what’s the best way to relax? I love to go for a run in the woods. There is nothing better than the peace and quiet of nature.
