A woman who was sexually assaulted by a former Oriana House recovery coach is suing the coach and Oriana House.

The woman recently filed a lawsuit against Todd Mathews and Oriana House in Summit County Common Pleas Court. She is claiming assault and battery, and negligent hiring, training and supervision.

Mathews, 43, pleaded guilty under an agreement with prosecutors in Summit County Common Pleas Court to gross sexual imposition and was sentenced in January to one year in prison and five years of probation. He originally faced additional charges.

Summit County Sheriff’s deputies say Mathews drove the 31-year-old woman to a parking lot in Tallmadge on May 4, 2018, and sexually assaulted her in a vehicle.

The Beacon Journal typically doesn't name rape victims.

Oriana House declined Monday to comment on the lawsuit.
