A 19-year-old Akron woman reported that she was shot in the leg at 3 p.m. Wednesday while she was a passenger in a car driving in the area of Russell Avenue and Manning Avenue in the city's Sherbondy Hill neighborhood.

The woman was dropped off at Cleveland Clinic Akron General. She said she was sleeping in the car when another vehicle passed by and at least one round was fired by an unknown suspect, police said.

The driver and another passenger were not injured.

The driver and other passenger left the hospital after dropping off Williams. A relative of the victim and the other passenger later returned, but the passenger declined to identify the driver or provide other information, according to a police report.

A witness said a light green or blue sport utility vehicle sped past them as the shooting occurred.
