Companies and organizations are spotlighted for hiring, retaining and promoting women, minorities, people with disabilities, LGBT applicants and veterans.

The Cleveland Clinic moved up from No. 5 on last year's specialty list for hospitals. The health care system maintains its own office of diversity and notes on its website that the clinic "values a culture where caregivers integrate diversity and inclusion throughout the enterprise. We respect and appreciate our similarities and differences; they enable us to better serve our patients, one another, and our global communities."

FirstEnergy noted in a news release that, in addition to enhancing its hiring, recruiting and development processes, the utility has launched a diversity and inclusion council, introduced mentoring programs and expanded training options for employees. FirstEnergy also has created several employee business resource groups to provide employees and their allies with networking, mentoring, coaching, recruiting, individual development and community outreach opportunities.

“Diversity and inclusion are core values at FirstEnergy,” said Charles E. Jones, FirstEnergy president and chief executive officer. “Being recognized by DiversityInc acknowledges our efforts to develop a diverse workforce reflective of the communities we serve, as well as providing a work environment in which employees feel valued, motivated and empowered to drive FirstEnergy’s business success.”
