Ryan Pendleton, treasurer and chief financial officer of Akron Public Schools, will talk about the Cupp-Patterson Fair School Funding Plan for Ohio at a 6 p.m. Tuesday meeting at the main Akron-Summit Public Library.

The event is an open-to-the-public gathering of the Summit County Progressive Democrats.

In 1997 the Ohio Supreme Court issued an opinion holding that Ohio's school funding system is unconstitutional and ordered a "complete, systematic overhaul" of the system.

Reps. Bob Cupp, R-Lima, and John Patterson, D-Jefferson, met with a group of school officials, including Pendleton, for more than a year to come up with an overhaul of the funding formula.

The library is at 60 St. High St.

At 6 p.m. May 21, the issues committee of the Summit County Progressive Democrats will meet at the Northwest Akron Branch Library for an open-to-the-public discussion on socialism and what it means for progressive Democrats.

The increased activity of the Democratic Socialists of American has raised awareness of socialism in the “mainstream left,” the Summit County Progressive Democrats said in a news release.

The library branch is at 1720 Shatto Ave.
