An Akron teen who is one of two people accused of stopping to help an elderly couple in the snow in January and then robbing them at gunpoint will be tried as an adult.
Summit County Juvenile Court Judge Linda Tucci Teodosio bound over Royal Oliver, 16, to Common Pleas court Tuesday. He is charged with aggravated robbery.
Police say a man and woman were backing out of their driveway on Brighton Avenue in South Akron Jan. 21 when their vehicle got stuck in the snow. Two males stopped to help them, but one pulled out a handgun and demanded their property. The man handed over his wallet and his wife’s purse. The robbers then fled.
Officers tracked footprints and arrested Oliver and Treyvon Wright, 20, who also is from Akron.
Wright is charged with aggravated robbery, theft, having weapons under disability and carrying a concealed weapon. His case is pending in Judge Amy Corrigall Jones’ courtroom.
