COPLEY — Copley Township was named a 2018 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation in honor of its commitment to effective urban forest management.

Copley achieved Tree City USA recognition for the first time by meeting the program’s four requirements: a tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

Copley is one of four townships to achieve the recognition in Ohio.

The Copley Township Architectural Review Board, under chair Joe Gregory, began work on the Tree City USA application in early 2018. Support came from the board of trustees, the township service department, the Gregory family and Arrowhead Elementary.
