Union Eye Care, which has an office in Akron's Chapel Hill area, has shuttered all eight of its Northeast Ohio locations.
The Better Business Bureau and Channel 19 News in Cleveland reported the company closed down last week. No one at Union Eye Care answered phone calls Wednesday.
Union Eye Care had offices at 1948 Buchholzer Blvd. and at seven other sites in the region. The business was founded in 1959, according to the Better Business Bureau.
Channel 19 reported that a Union Eye Care employee received an email, sent May 7, that read: The “Board of Trustees made the decision that Union Eye Care Inc. will be filing for bankruptcy. We will be closing all eight stores, our terminal optical lab and headquarters permanently effective Wednesday May 8, 2019."
