GREEN — A 55-year-old city woman was struck by a Dodge Ram pickup on Interstate 77 Tuesday afternoon and suffered life-threatening injuries, the Summit County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies responded around 2:30 p.m. to a report of a single-car crash on I-77 northbound near the Akron-Canton Airport. The woman had hit a light pole, Summit County Sheriiff's Inspector William Holland said.

The woman exited her 2010 Honda Odyssey and was interviewed by a sheriff's deputy.

While the deputy was interviewing witnesses, the woman, who had been near the deputy's vehicle, walked into the highway and was struck, Holland said. She was transported to Summa Akron City Hospital by Green firefighters.

Holland said the deputy was surprised the woman walked into traffic. He said the deputy said that while he was interviewing the woman "she was coherent" and answered the deputy's questions.
