FAIRLAWN — Fairlawn Lutheran School, 3415 W. Market St., will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday to celebrate its new playground.

Mayor Bill Roth will cut the ribbon.

“Play and physical activity are critical components of the early education curriculum at Fairlawn Lutheran School,” Director Cathie Lucarelli said in a prepared statement. “The new playground will give us even more opportunities to develop the muscle strength, balance, and coordination every child needs. And I think the children will find it a lot of fun, too.”

The  playground equipment was donated by the University of Akron. Fairlawn Lutheran raised the money to move and reinstall the equipment. More than half of the $25,000 cost was provided through: a $1,700 Thrivent Choice Grant, a $4,000 Lutheran Church Extension Fund grant, $5,000 from the Fairlawn Lutheran Memorial Fund, and $1,800 from the Fairlawn Lutheran Endowment Fund. The remainder was provided through school fundraising.
