Two 20-year-old men in Akron's University Park neighborhood were assaulted late Thursday by two gunmen — one wearing a University of Akron sweatshirt.

Police said the incident happened about 11:30 p.m. Two men sitting on a porch in the 500 block of Allyn Street heard the side door of the house shut.

When they checked to see who was there, they saw two strangers coming out. The men chased the strangers and, at the intersection of Cross Street and Cross Court, the strangers turned, showed handguns and confronted the men, demanding their belongings.

A gunman punched one of the men in the face and took his iPhone and wallet, police said. The second gunman took the other man's iPhone and wallet, too.

The gunmen ran away toward Kling Street.

Police did not say whether the robbery victims were UA students, but they were at a house in the heart of off-campus housing.

The victims said the robbers were about their age — both between 18 and 21 years old. Both were black. One was 5-10 to 6 feet tall and wore a blue hoodie and dark pants. The second was shorter, 5-6 to 5-8, and wore a yellow Akron Zips hooded sweatshirt and dark pants.
