Free canoe rides
at farmers' market
The Summit Lake Neighborhood Farmers' Market held every Tuesday through October from 4 to 8 p.m. begins Tuesday at the Summit Lake Community Center, 380 W Crosier St.
The public market features fresh, locally grown and sourced produce and other products, cooking demonstrations, children's activities, live music and free guided canoe rides.
West Prospect to close
for culvert replacement
West Prospect Street will be closed Monday at the intersection of Hines Hill Road to allow for a culvert replacement.►June 17.◄
Once this work is finished, work crews will then close the road between 1621 and 1665 West Prospect St. to replace the culvert in that area, according to a city news release.
The replacement of the culverts is expected to take approximately three weeks overall, weather permitting. Residents will be able to access their driveways. Detours will be posted.

WAKR can be found
on AM and FM dial
You now have an additional place to find WAKR (1590-AM). The Akron AM radio station is now simulcasting on the FM dial at 93.5.
WAKR, home to hosts Ray Horner, Jasen►OK◄ Sokol and Sam & Brad, will continue to carry news, talk and sports, including the Cleveland Indians, Browns, Cavaliers and Ohio State Buckeyes games.
The station said in a news release Thursday that for Indians fans, the FM signal will make it “much easier to hear the games at night.”
Windham plans to hire
The Windham Board of Education is prepared to hire Streetsboro assistant superintendent Aireane Curtis to lead its district.
The Streetsboro Board of Education was expected to accept her resignation, effective June 20, at its meeting Thursday. The Windham board is expected to vote to hire Curtis next Tuesday, Windham officials confirmed Wednesday.
Curtis will be under the same contract as former superintendent Laura Amero, who was paid $96,500 per year. officials said. Her last day with Streetsboro will be on June 28, and her first day at Windham will be July 1.
″[Leaving Streetsboro] is emotional because this is my second family. I’m really excited going to Windham and starting something new with them,” Curtis said. “The first thing is getting to know that community, staff and students, and then I think we determine where they are and where we’re going to head.”
In April, Amero pleaded not guilty to four felony counts and two misdemeanor counts stemming from charges that she had sex with a high school student in 2017 when he was 16, and attempted to have sexual relations with another student when he was 16 and 17 between 2015 and 2017, according to an indictment filed in the Portage County Common Pleas Court. She was principal at Windham High School at the time of the alleged crimes.

The Stark County Sheriff's Office along with other members of the OVI Task Force will conduct sobriety checkpoints Friday►, June 14, 2019◄ in Louisville and Nimishillen Township, Sheriff George Maier said.
The specific locations of the checkpoints were not released.
"We want to strongly recommend to those who will be consuming alcohol to plan for a designated driver or make other arrangements," the Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

The Summit County OVI Task Force will conduct sobriety checkpoints across Summit County on Friday night and early Saturday morning.
The task force did not disclose where the checkpoints will be located.
