Platform Beer Co. and the United States are co-celebrating their birthdays.
The Cleveland-based brewery will host parties at its three locations — Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati — on the Fourth of July to celebrate its fifth anniversary.
“It’s hard to believe our Cleveland taproom opened five years ago,” owner and co-founder Paul Benner said in a prepared statement. “Platform began as a way to involve the local community in the brewing process, and we believe we’ve remained true to that ever since. We’re excited to highlight a few local breweries with our anniversary release and to celebrate with our communities.”
Platform has experienced rapid growth since opening in 2014 with a three-barrel system in Cleveland's Ohio City neighborhood. In 2018, the Brewers Association named it one of the fastest-growing breweries in the United States.
In addition to its three taprooms and production brewery, Platform will soon open a sour-focused brewery called Phunkenship in Cleveland and has announced plans to open a brewery in Pittsburgh.
The anniversary festivities begin at 10 a.m. The Cincinnati location will open at 7 a.m. for coffee and breakfast.
The first 100 guests in Cleveland and the first 50 guests in Columbus and Cincinnati will receive a commemorative five-year anniversary glass. Platform also will release five-year merchandise and new summer merchandise.
Platform promised several "special beer variant tappings for the event, including some Platform staples reimagined, as well as some new releases with a unique twist."
The brewery also collaborated with the Butcher and the Brewer in Cleveland, Land-Grant in Columbus and Streetside in Cincinnati to create three beers for its anniversary. The beers are named after the cities' area codes:
• Two One Six is a traditional West Coast IPA with Simcoe Cryo and Centennial hops.
• Six One Four is a New England-style brut IPA with Saphir and Triple Pearl hops.
• Five One Three is a New England style IPA made exclusively with Callista hops.
Each city will have its collaboration brew on tap and will sell mix six-packs during the party.
