Akron police dealt with a violent weekend involving multiple shootings, including a man killed by gunfire in North Hill and a teenager shot in the face.
The shooting reports kicked off at 5:30 p.m. Friday when police responded to a shots fired call in the 1100 block of Cumberland Drive in East Akron. A woman reported that a fight broke out in front of her apartment. She gathered her family and ran into the basement after hearing the suspects talk about a gun.
She heard shots fired and realized the apartment was hit. No injuries were reported.
The victim was unable to give a description of the suspects.
In the same neighborhood, authorities responded to a report of a shooting at 11:30 p.m. Friday in the 1100 block of Ericsson Avenue and found a 17-year-old boy with a non-life threatening injury after he was struck in the face.
The teen reported that he was in an upstairs bedroom when he heard shots fired and a bullet passed through a wall and hit him in the face. He was taken to Summa Akron City Hospital.
While police were at the scene, two additional shooting victims, a 28-year-old man and a 19-year-old man, arrived at the hospital with non-life threatening wounds.
No further details were available, police said.
Around 12:01 a.m. Saturday, police responded to Summa Akron City Hospital for a gunshot victim who walked into the emergency room. The 18-year-old victim said he was shot in the left leg while in an alley behind businesses in the 400 block of East Exchange Street in the University Park neighborhood.
The victim was unable to give a description of the suspect.
Shortly after 3 a.m. Saturday, officers responded to North Valley Street in the West Hill neighborhood and found a 32-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his chin lying in front of a motorcycle club. The victim was taken to Cleveland Clinic Akron General with serious injuries.
No description of a suspect was given to officers.
Meanwhile, a man was shot to death early Sunday morning in the North Hill neighborhood. The man, identified as Jamie Roger, 43, of Akron, had just left the Northside Tavern on North Howard Street when he got into an altercation with two men outside and was shot multiple times, police said.
He was pronounced dead at 12:49 a.m.
The suspects fled the scene.
Then shortly after 11 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to a shooting at North Summit Street and East Market Street downtown. They found two male victims. A 31-year-old was shot in the buttocks, while a 29-year-old had a gunshot wound to his finger.
They were both taken to Summa Akron City Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
No information about a suspect was given to officers.
The various shootings remain under investigation.
