Phoenix Brewing Co. likes to say that its tasting room — a former mortuary — is haunted with spirits.
Now, the Mansfield brewery has created a spirit of its own.
Phoenix has teamed up with Iron Vault Distillery in nearby Galion to produce an all-Ohio whiskey. The brewery will host a release party for Phoenix Fire Single Malt Whiskey at 5 p.m. Tuesday. (July 30) There will be limited-edition cocktails available and a visit by Iron Vault co-owner and distiller John Bassett at 6 p.m.
"The whiskey is rich and slightly sweet, with notes of toffee on the nose, and a bold lingering finish," the brewery said in a news release. "Delicious straight, with a splash of water, or a few rocks. It is also fantastic in variety of whiskey cocktails."
Phoenix Fire was distilled from a single malt mash brewed at Phoenix using Ohio grown barley from Haus Malts in Cleveland. The distillation, aging and bottling occurred at Iron Vault.
The collaboration came about after Scott Cardwell, co-owner of Phoenix, reached out to Iron Vault hoping to add some of its spirits to the taproom.
The limited batch whiskey will be served exclusively at the brewery, but bottles will be available for purchase at Iron Vault. While the official release party is still several days away, Phoenix Fire is available now at the brewery.
