RAVENNA — A former assistant baseball coach pleaded guilty Tuesday to sending pornographic photos on social media to several members of the Waterloo High School baseball team.

Corwin Smith, 20, of Canal Fulton pleaded guilty to one count of disseminating matter harmful to juveniles, a first-degree misdemeanor in Portage County Municipal Court. He had been charged with 10 counts after sending photos of a sex toy and woman’s breasts to the players on Snapchat.

According to the Portage County Sheriff’s Office, Smith cooperated with the investigation. Court records indicate the victims were between 14 and 17 years old, and Smith has been ordered to have no contact with any juveniles other than a family member.

According to Waterloo Superintendent Shawn Braman, Smith resigned March 19 and the Board of Education approved the resignation in April. Braman confirmed to the Record-Courier that he has not been rehired for this upcoming school year.

Smith’s recognizance bond has been continued. A sentencing date has not yet been set, but Judge Barb Oswick, who oversaw the case, said it would likely be in about a month.

Braman told the Record-Courier earlier this year that the school was cooperating with the Portage County Sheriff’s Office.
