White Claw, an alcohol-infused, canned seltzer beverage that has become the summer sensation of 2019, now has an unofficial theme song with local ties.

"Drinkin' Claws," a collaboration between Mark Leach, the Akron country singer-songwriter, and Dan and Nate Monea of Canton band Hey Monea, was released Monday to YouTube.com.

The catchy country tune, whose chorus includes "There ain't no laws when we're drinkin' Claws," seems like a potential viral breakout, especially in the wake of "Old Town Road."

"Drinkin' Claws" was written earlier this month, when Leach and Dan Monea met up for a songwriting session on Leach's boat on the Portage Lakes.

"I'd seen all kinds of memes that said, 'Ain't no laws when you're drinking claws,' " Dan said. "Mark's a super creative lyricist and we immediately dug in. The song literally flowed out in a half hour, 45 minutes."

Soon thereafter, with Nate Monea doing engineering and drum programming, "Drinkin' Claws" was recorded.

"We knew we needed to get it out with a little bit of summertime left," Dan said.

"We worked on it for three days. We wanted to take what was a country song and produce it hip-hop style with trap hats and sub bass."

The party noise heard in the background at the beginning and end of the song was recorded at Dan's birthday party.

"Drinkin' Claws" is available on iTunes, Spotify and YouTube. Locally, the song is being played by Q92 FM.
