WOOSTER — A 13-year-old girl crossing the street near the Wayne County Fairgrounds on Wednesday evening was hit by a car and transported to the hospital, where she was in stable condition, police said.

Police responded to the intersection of West Liberty Street and Vanover Street at 7:58 p.m. Wednesday, Capt. Victor Nedoma said in a release. The police investigation indicates the girl was crossing Liberty Street outside of a crosswalk when an eastbound vehicle struck her.

The girl was taken to Wooster Community Hospital, where she was reported to be in stable condition, Nedoma said in the release. The 29-year-old driver of the vehicle, whom police identified as Jarrett Bright of Wooster, was not injured.

Police continue to investigate the crash, but do not suspect alcohol was a factor, Asst. Chief Scott Rotolo said.
