The northbound lanes of Interstate 71 were closed Friday morning in Medina County just south of the Interstate 76 interchange because a commercial truck caught fire, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

The fire was reported at 6:49 a.m.

Multiple agencies responded to the fire. A motorist shared photos of the billowing fire on Twitter.

The Ohio Department of Transportation reported that crews opened the left shoulder to traffic at 9:37 a.m.

"Traffic is moving very slowly through the area," ODOT said in an alert. "Motorists are advised to seek an alternate route if possible and to drive with caution in the area."
