KENT — Police and EMS responded to South Water Street after two pedestrians were struck by a vehicle Thursday afternoon.
Police Lt. Mike Lewis said injuries appeared to be minor. Fire Capt. Rich Lynn said EMS took both pedestrians to UH Portage Medical Center, but neither he nor Lewis had any additional information about them. Lewis said the vehicle’s driver is a 24-year-old man.
Lewis said the crash was reported outside the Burger King at 1575 S. Water St. at 2:19 p.m.
“The good news is it does not sound like a serious crash,” said Lewis. “A Ford Focus was pulling out of the Burger King parking lot to turn left and head southbound on South Water Street. The vehicle struck two pedestrians who were crossing Water Street. ... They met just as the vehicle entered the southbound lane so the vehicle was not yet moving very fast when it struck the two people who were in the roadway.”
Lewis said the crash is under investigation, but there is not a crosswalk there.
“No fault’s been determined yet,” he said.
Lewis said there was traffic backed up, but the scene was cleared after only about 20 minutes.
