The University of Akron women's soccer team lost 1-0 in overtime to host Western Michigan on Friday in Kalamazoo, Mich.
The Broncos (7-6-0, 1-0 Mid-American Conference) scored seven minutes into the overtime period to defeat the Zips (3-5-1, 0-1) in the MAC opener for both teams.
The Zips travel to Northern Illinois on Sunday for a 3 p.m. kickoff.
• The Kent State women's soccer team allowed two second-half goals in a 2-0 loss to host Eastern Michigan on Friday.
The Golden Flashes (4-4-1, 0-1 MAC) outshot the Eagles 20-12, including a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal, but two goals from Kristin Nason in the second half gave the Eagles the match.
The Flashes play at Central Michigan on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The University of Akron opened MAC play on Friday with a 3-0 loss to Miami in Akron.
Ashley Richardson and Hannah Yaconis each had six kills, Emily Weigand had 15 assists and Kayla Gwozdz had 10 digs for the Zips.
The Zips host Bowling Green on Sunday at 5 p.m.
Friday evening's game between the University of Akron and Kent State was canceled due to the weather. No make-up date has been announced.
Kent State hosts KSU-Tuscarawas on Saturday at 5 p.m., and UA hosts Youngstown State on Sept. 29.
