Gahanna Columbus Academy 3, Hudson 0

Columbus Academy won its state-record 11th state field hockey title, winning for the first time since 2013. The Vikings scored the shutout at Upper Arlington High School, controlling the game with 24 shots to the Explorers' four.

Alex Phelps recorded another shutout in goal for Columbus Academy, which completed a perfect 21-0 season. The Vikings had allowed just one goal this season.

Hudson finished its year 17-4 and was making its 14th appearance in the state tournament and going for its fourth state field hockey title.

Girls soccer

Strongsville 4, Toledo Notre Dame Academy 0

At Sandusky High School, Strongsville advanced to the state final four by winning the Division I Region 2 final in a shutout. The Mustangs improved to 18-0-3. Ohio's third-ranked Division I team will play No. 8 Twinsburg on Tuesday in a state semifinal.

Shelby Sallee and Coley Sidloski each scored twice (one in each half for each), to lead Strongsville to its 12th trip to the state semifinals and first since 2012.


Steubenville 38, Buchtel 13

Steubenville (10-1) won its 10th consecutive game, eliminating Buchtel from the Division IV, Region 13 state playoffs. The defending Division IV state champs move on to play Hubbard (10-1) next Saturday night, while Buchtel's season ends with a 6-5 record after its first appearance in the state playoffs since 2010.

Perry (Lake Co.) 48, CVCA 34

The Pirates took control early, racking up 308 first half yards to CVCA's 151, en route to a Division IV, Region 13 quarterfinal win in Perry. But the Royals made it interesting, closing to within seven points at 41-34 with 6:49 left in the fourth quarter. Jacob Allen's score with 1:20 left put the Pirates (10-1) ahead for good and moved them into the second round to face Girard (10-1).

It was the Royals' (7-4) seventh appearance in the state playoffs.
