The University of Akron lost in straight sets to host Buffalo on Thursday to begin the final weekend of the regular season.
The Zips (11-15, 3-12 Mid-American Conference) lost 20-25, 21-25 and 19-25 in a rematch with the Bulls (17-10, 9-6), who the Zips defeated earlier this season.
Kayla Gwozdz had 12 kills, Emily Weigand had 28 assists and Taylor Sharrits had 17 digs to lead the Zips.
The Zips end the regular season at Ball State on Saturday at 7 p.m.
The University of Akron women's basketball team began the 2018-19 season with an 86-45 exhibition win over visiting Rochester on Thursday.
The Zips used a solid defensive effort in the win, which included holding the Warriors to six points in the third quarter.
The Zips travel to Greensboro, N.C., on November 13 for their final exhibition game against North Carolina A&T.
The Zips open the regular season at the Kent State classic on Nov. 17 against Oakland.
