Browns Quick Hits
What went right: Rookie running back Nick Chubb erased memories of Carlos Hyde's brief Browns tenure by rushing 20 times for 176 yards, including a 92-yard touchdown — the longest run in franchise history. A second-round draft pick (No. 35 overall), Chubb also caught three passes on three targets for 33 yards and a touchdown. "I don’t know what he ate for breakfast, but he was ridiculous," Browns defensive end Chris Smith said. And don't forget about the offensive line, which helped the Browns go without a sack for the first time since Dec. 27, 2015. "I think [offensive line] coach [Bob] Wylie is going to take them to Hyde Park and out for a meal," rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield said.
What went wrong: On first-and-10 at the Falcons 34-yard line, the Browns got burned by a trick play when running back Dontrell Hilliard's pass intended for Mayfield was intercepted by safety Damontae Kazee with 8:30 left in the second quarter. "We were moving them, and we had a bad play call and also a bad throw, I guess," Chubb said.
The bottom line: The backfield tandem of Chubb and Mayfield has great potential.
