WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Buffalo 91, Akron 72

Four Zips reached double figures but it was not enough to overcome a slow start Wednesday as they lost their third consecutive Mid-American Conference game on the road.

Buffalo jumped out to a 27-15 lead after the first quarter and never lost its comfortable advantage.

Megan Sefcik led Akron (11-6, 2-4) with 17 points. She drained four 3-pointers and added two assists, a block and a steal.

Also scoring in double digits were Haliegh Reinoehl (15 points), Gabrielle Brown-Mitchell (13) and Shaunay Edmonds (12). Brown-Mitchell was a perfect 3-for-3 from behind the 3-point arc.

Ball State 48, Kent State 44

After beginning its Mid-American Conference schedule with three consecutive wins, Kent State was beaten at Ball State for its third loss in a row.

Defense was on display as the Golden Flashes forced 23 turnovers and limited the Cardinals to 32.7 percent shooting from the field.

Senior Alexa Golden and freshman Asiah Dingle both matched career-highs in steals. Golden tallied six swipes and two blocked shots, and Dingle recorded five takeaways.

Dingle also scored 11 points and redshirt junior Megan Carter led Kent (10-7, 3-3) with 12 points.
