Matt Ludwig jumped an NCAA-leading 19-1½ in the men's pole vault to lead the University of Akron to a 78-72 victory at the Akron-Kent State dual meet Friday in Akron.

Ludwig tried to set the collegiate record with a jump of 19-5, but failed on several attempts.

The Zips women were also victorious, beating the Golden Flashes 79-72.

 

WOMEN'S TENNIS

The University of Akron defeated St. Bonaventure 6-1 and Niagara 6-1 on Friday in Olean, N.Y.

The Zips won the three doubles matches and won five of the six singles matches to defeat the Bonnies in the morning match.

Miruna Vasilescu won the No. 1 singles match, Anna Uljanov won at No. 2, Rita Pedroso won at No. 3, Enya Forgaci won at No. 4 and Luisa Echeverry won at No. 5 to lead the Zips.

The Zips then defeated the Purple Eagles in the afternoon session with a sweep in the three doubles matches and five wins in singles matches.

Pedroso won the No. 1 singles match, Forgaci at No. 2, Echeverry won at No. 4, Carla Flores won at No. 5 and Holland Long won at No. 6.

The Zips travel to Ogden, Utah, on Thursday to play Weber State.
