Division I state championship

After qualifying as the No. 1 seed, Stow fell to eventual state champion Centerville on Friday night.

In the qualifying round, the Bulldogs earned the top seed by totaling 3,265 pins. Also placing in the top eight to advance to bracket play were North Canton Hoover (3,220) and Perry (3,060).

Stow topped Perry in the quarterfinals before losing to Centerville, and Hoover downed Troy before falling to Beavercreek.

Centerville defeated Beavercreek in the championship.

 

BOYS BASKETBALL

Orrville 54, Tuslaw 42

The Red Riders used lockdown defense to spark an extended second-half run to pull away from the Mustangs in the Wooster Division III district and earn their first district title since 2012.

After leading just 22-20 at halftime, Orrville gave up a quick basket before going on a 13-0 run and holding the Mustangs without a basket for seven minutes.

As Tuslaw continued to miss from 3-point range (0-for-11), the Red Rider lead grew to 43-26. Orrville finished 9-of-21 from long range.

Marquael Parks and Cayden McDaniel each scored 12 points to lead the Red Riders, who will play in a regional semifinal at 8 p.m. Wednesday in Canton.

Brecksville 84,

Cleveland St. Ignatius 79 (4 OT)

The Bees (19-5) overcame a 17-point second-half deficit to defeat the Wildcats (16-8) in four overtimes in a Division I district semifinal at Lakewood on Thursday.

Kenny Ganley led Brecksville with 27 points. JC Sejba (17), Tommy Barth (13) and Joe Labas (11) also reached double figures for the Bees, who outscored Ignatius 13-8 in the fourth overtime period.

Brecksville will meet Lakewood St. Edward in a district final at 7 p.m. Saturday.
